Danny Verdel

Danny Verdel is a full-time software developer, volunteer firefighter, and triathlete with the ambition to build a life as a professional triathlete. He grew up as a speed skater and competed at national level for years before transitioning into another form of endurance sport, triathlon — a shift that only strengthened his passion for endurance, with the variety of swimming, cycling, and running continuing to challenge him.

Alongside his work as a software developer and his role as a volunteer firefighter, Danny builds his athletic career every single day. That demanding schedule has sharpened his discipline: he treats consistency, not talent, as his edge, and structures his life so training gets the priority it needs to compete at the highest level.

Danny made his triathlon debut in 2025 at Ironman 70.3 Duisburg, finishing in 4:29:45 for 15th in his age group and 63rd overall out of 2,059 finishers.

The 2026 season delivered strong results across the board. At a shortened Ironman Frankfurt, Danny posted the fastest bike split in his age group. He then completed his first full-distance triathlon at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam in 8:46:15, beating his sub-9-hour target and becoming national champion in his age group. He also returned to Ironman 70.3 Duisburg and cut his time to 4:06:12, a result that qualified him for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, though he chose not to take the slot.

With the 2026 season now behind him, Danny is turning his attention, guided by his coach, to what's next. His race calendar for the coming season will be announced soon, with Kona and a professional triathlon license still standing as his ultimate destination.
